As part of the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival’s cultural
program in March 2012, Linda Britten and the Dame Nellie Melba Opera Trust
presented a show in which the timeless art forms of couture and design as well
as opera, were fused together. The show gave the audience a modern platform to
view the latest fashions against a backdrop of grand opera, creating a challenging
the traditions of both arts.
The collaboration created a showcase of current and future
‘leading ladies’ of opera, supported by the Dame Nellie Melba Opera Trust. The
Trust exists to provide support of young opera signers, through the means of
scholarship funding, mentoring and providing promising young singers
performance opportunities.

Linda Britten is proudly recognised as a Mentor of the
Trust, as has long supported the world of Opera with her couture gowns. This association
became the base of the idea for ‘Operette’, along with Linda’s desire to
support the tradition of Couture in Fashion and Opera.
Linda would like extend a thankyou to all those who were
involved with the production, both behind the scenes and
front of house. It
would not have been possible without all your helping hands!
